Dominguez Takes 3rd as Team Qualifies for Sectionals
Monday, November 4 2024 - IHSA 3A Boys Cross Country RegionalsAt the IHSA 3A Glenbrook South Regional, the Giants focused on qualifying for the Sectional Meet while competing against several state ranked teams. The team was confident they would qualify, but wanted to see how they match up against the top teams at the meet.
The team’s top 3 runners got out well for the first mile. Dylan Dominguez (Sr.), Lucas Hoobler (Jr.), and Henry Gamson (Jr.) were just a few seconds apart at that point of the race. As the race progressed Dominguez moved up and was closing in on a top 5 finish. He had his usual fast finish and crossed the line in 15:29.96 to take 3rd place. This earned him All-Regional honors and was a great bounce back race after battleing illness at the conference meet. Hoobler pulled away from Gamson with a strong final 400 to take 11th place in 15:50.69. Gamson was several seconds back in 15:57.91 to take 15th place. These 2 juniors continue to impress with breakthrough seasons.
Usiel Rodriguez (Sr.) followed up his strong conference meet race with another strong perofomance. He finished in 39th place while running 16:32.69 for 3 miles. Brian Hatoum (Sr.) continued to try to make his comeback from injury. This was only his 2nd race of the season. He ran a 17:09.76 to finish a few places in front of teammates Josh Brown (Jr.). Brown battled to a 17:24.52 finish time. Truman Evans (Jr.) raced to a time of 18:04.08 for the Regional Meet.
This was not as strong of an overall team performance that the coaches and runners were hoping for. It was good enough for the team to take 4th place behind New Trier, Prospect, and Evanston. This qualified the team for Sectionals and a chance to qualify for the IHSA 3A State Meet for the second year in a row.
