Frosh-Soph Compete at Race Car Rally

Saturday, November 2 2024 - Buffalo Grove F/S Race Car Invite

The HP freshmen and sophomores competed at the Race Car Rally hosted by Buffalo Grove High School. The meet took place at Willow Stream Park and included a strong field of quality teams.

The first race was the freshmen 2 mile race. Tristan Perkes finished off his season by running his fastest time and while finishing in 6th place. He ran an impressive 11:12.61. HP had a second runner finish in the top 10. Caleb Haggarty had a great race and finished in 10th place with a personal best of 11:22.52.

Shea Jackson was the next HP finisher. He ran 12:12.17 for the 2 mile race. Theo Sofier continued to feel the effects of being sick as he raced to a 12:38.93. Charlie Szot was the team’s 5th man with another strong race as he ran 12:44.73.

Theo Hanold and Chase Temple both raced well finishing just a few seconds apart. Hanold crossed the line in 13:22.02 while Temple came through at 13:27.28.

Despite a calf injury, Manuel Jauregui gutted out another tough race for the team. He finished in 14:39.11 for the 2 mile race. Liam Hsu ran in the 14s for the second time this season for 2 miles. He finished in a time of 14:49.87.

The freshmen finished in 6th place as a team (same score as 5th place, but Oak Park had a better finish by their 6th runner). There is a bright future for this freshmen crew if they work hard and stay committed over time.

HP only had 3 runners entered in the sophomore 2 mile race. Gabriel Jackson led the way for the Giants with a strong effort and determination to finish in the top 25. Jackson crossed the line in 11:42.57 to take 23rd place. Joaquin Martinez raced to 35th place and finished up a great season with a 12:16.77. Vasco Leite also completed his breakthrough season with a strong race. He finished the 2 miles in 12:50.18.

These three sophomores will look to make a big impact next year. This will be accomplished with consistent training over time.
