Shamar Wilson Breaks School Record in 60 Meter Dash at Lakes

Monday, February 24 2025 - Clash At The Colosseum

Due to a scheduling conflict, the first meet for the Giants this season was the Clash at the Colosseum hosted by Lakes Community High School. The meet was not as deep as previous years due to the schedule change and several teams not being able to attend. That being said, it was still a very competitive invite with talented fields in each event.

Field Event Highlights

Shot Put: Alexandros Drosos (Sr.) had a great day at Lakes. He has been focused and working hard at throwing rotational. It really has paid off as he began the season with an over 1 foot personal best. His best mark of the day was a 37’4” toss. Braxten Peterson (Sr.) had a solid day with a throw of 35’8.75”. With continued hard work and attention to detail, both these throwers have the chance of being over 40 feet by the end of the season.

High Jump: Newcomer Hugh Ludington (Sr.) cleared 5’0” in the high jump.

Long Jump: Charles Ludington (Sr.) got a mark of 18’7.25” for a nice opening performance. He has the ability to get over 20 feet as he continues to work on his speed and execution. Lincoln Seidman (Sr.) jumped 17’5.25” to start the season and will work to improve on that mark in future meets.

Triple Jump: Quentin Kelley (Sr.) led the way for HP in the triple jump with a 37’8” mark. Seidman jumped 36’5.5” for his best attempt. Both jumpers will be hunting for marks closer to 40 feet as the season progresses.

Track Event Highlights

4X800 Meter Relay: Truman Evans (Jr.) led off the HP team with a 2:13.7 split. This is 2 seconds ahead of what he ran at this meet last year. Usiel Rodriguez (Sr.) was the second leg and handed the baton off after splitting a 2:13.0. Daniel Doyle (Jr.) went out very aggressive to move the team up, but paid for the fast start and split a 2:18.4. Spencer Pedraza (Jr.) was the anchor and split a 2:23.7. The quartet ended up racing to a 9:09.20.

3200 Meter Run: Lucas Hoobler (Jr.) raced well in the 3200 after recently being sick. He was able to get across the line in 10:21.03. His indoor personal best last season was 10:39.

60 Meter High Hurdles: Lachlan Knapp (Sr.) had a strong race with a 9.14. Mateo Diaz (Sr.) also ran well with a personal best 10.39. His previous best time was 10.97.

800 Meter Run: Henry Gamson (Jr.) ran an indoor personal best of 2:08.82.

4X200 Meter Relay: The relay team was led off by Hayden Tortora (Jr.) with a solid start. He handed off to newcomer Jacob Youra (Jr.). Youra navigated the cut in well and got the baton to another HP track & field newcomer Benjamin Holtschulte (Jr.). Holtschulte had a strong run and gave the baton to anchor Gal Raviv (Jr.). Raviv finished tough as the all junior team finished with a time of 1:44.09.

400 Meter Dash: Lachlan Knapp (Sr.) led the way for the Giants in the 400 meter dash. He ran a determined race to take 8th place in :54.30. Quentin Kelley (Sr.) came through the line in :56.40 while Gabriel Jackson (So.) ran a :57.04.

1600 Meter Run: After missing nearly the entirety of his most recent cross country season as well as track & field last year, Brian Hatoum (Sr.) returned to the track. Hatoum raced relaxed and finished in 4:38.97. This is a solid start to his comeback season. Logan Liu (Jr.) raced to an indoor personal best of 5:05.35.

200 Meter Dash: Shamar Wilson (Jr.) took 5th place with a time of :23.42. This is slightly faster than what he ran at this meet last year. Benjamin Holtschulte (Jr.) raced to a solid :26.24 coming off of the 4X200 run earlier. Hugh Ludington (Sr.) ran a :26.45 in his heat.

4X400 Meter Relay: This event has been a strength for the Giants the past few years with the 2 best 400 runners in HP history and good depth as well. With the graduation of the team’s top 400 runners, the 2025 team is looking for guys to step into those roles. At this meet, the relay was led off by Gal Raviv (Jr.) in :58.6. Truman Evans (Jr.) ran :57.4 for the second leg. Usiel Rodriguez (Sr.) split a :57.1 and Lachlan Knapp (Sr.) again showed his racing toughness with a :54.7 split. The team ran 3:47.94 and will look to work that time down as the season progresses.

The Giants will continue to build on the performances from this first meet. It will take commitment to showing up everyday and taking care of all the details so that the team can improve. The team is looking forward to the challenge and opportunity to grow as individuals as well as collectively.
