Reyes and Auerbach Just Miss Meet Records At New Trier Frosh-Soph Invite
Sunday, May 8 2016 - New Trier Frosh-Soph InviteNew Trier Frosh-Soph Invite is always a very competitive invite for our young track & field athletes. The Giants competed well and had many strong performances despite cold and very windy conditions.
Freshmen:
Jose Reyes had a big night for HP. He won both the 3200 and 1600 meter races. In the 3200 he pulled away from the rest of the field right after the gun went off. He fought the wind by himself as he went for the meet record. In the end, he just missed the record as he ran a 10:09.8 (the record is 10:09.2). This was a tremendous effort without having anyone with him to push the pace and fighting through the wind. Reyes then came back to run 4:47.03 in the 1600 to win that event as well.
Amir Fakhari had a successful night as well. He took 1st in the Long Jump (17’2”), 3rd in the 200 Meter Dash (26.12), and 4th in the Triple Jump (34’11.5”).
Ben Kirsch was another Giant that won an event as he took 1st in the Pole Vault (9’0”). He also finished 3rd in the Long Jump.
Jack Casey took 2nd in the High Jump (5’0”).
Jakob French was 2nd in the Pole Vault (8’6”) and 3rd in the 400 Meter Dash (58.89).
Sophomore:
Zach Auerbach missed the Discus meet record by 1 foot! He threw 128’9” to win the event. He also took 2nd in the Shot Put (40’1.5”).
In the 3200 Meter Run, Alec Glazier and Nate Amster finished in 3rd and 4th place. They ran 10:08.65 and 10:09.44.
Luke Crawford took 5th place in both the Long Jump (16’8.75”) and Triple Jump (33’1”).
Ben Zavell finished 5th in the 400 Meter Dash (59.32).
It will be exciting to see what these young Giants will do over the next 2-3 years! They have the opportunity to be great if they are willing to make the commitment and work together to be the best track & field athletes they can be.
