Strong Varsity Efforts Not Enough To Defeat Deerfield At Duel Meet
Sunday, March 11 2012 - Deerfield DuelThe Highland Park Varsity Boys Track & Field Team fought hard against Deerfield in the annual Duel Meet between the district rivals, but it was not enough. Deerfield won the meet 66 to 57.
HP put together a high quality line-up to try to defeat Deerfield. The team fell short in the end despite finishing on a high note with a thrilling come from behind victory in the 4X400 Meter Relay in which Alex Kasemir ran an incredible anchor leg to get the win.
Only the top 3 score in open events and only the winning team in relays, so points are hard to come by in this meet.

Sweep in the Shot Put (seniors Max Downey 40’11”, Chris Nieto 40’9”, and Michael Wilson 39’5”)
1st and 3rd in High Jump (seniors John Bricker 6’2” and Brendan Philador 6’0”)
3rd in the Long Jump (sophomore Bosco Israel 18’6”)
2nd in 50 Meter High Hurdles and Low Hurdles (senior Josh Weinberg 7.5, 7.3)
1st in the 50 Meter Dash and 200 Meter Dash (junior Andrew Sledd again tying the Fieldhouse and school records in the 50 and making the all-time HP top 10 in the 200)
1st and 3rd in the 800 Meter Run (junior Jonah Hanig 2:05.6 and senior Marc Brenner 2:10.8)
1st in the 400 Meter Dash (senior Alex Kasemir 54.6)
2nd and 3rd in the 1600 Meter Run (Jonah Hanig 4:44.0 and sophomore Angel Estrada 4:46.0)
4X160 Meter Relay (Andrew Sledd, senior Alex Heymann, John Bricker, and Josh Weinberg 1:17.7)
