Varsity Wins Twilight Invite

Despite brutal winds the entire night, the Giants battled to take the Highland Park Twilight Invite varsity team title for the first time in the 7 year history of the event.
Times for nearly every event were slow due to the conditions, but the way the athletes competed was more important on this night.
The field events gave a great start to the meet for the Giants.
High Jump: 1st senior John Bricker 6’1”, 2nd senior Brenden Philador 5’9”
Pole Vault: 2nd senior Jacob Goldstein 10’, 3rd junior Ethan Tannenbaum 9’
Triple Jump: 4th junior Michael Delk 37’
Shot Put: 1st senior Max Downey 45’4”, 3rd senior Chris Nieto 41’
Discus: 2nd Zach Korman 122’4”
Then came the track events:
Junior Andrew Sledd was 2nd in the 100 meter dash (11.18), just behind a very fast sprinter from Larkin, and 3rd in the 200 meter dash (23.62).
Seniors Alex Kasemir and Nate Echt finished 3rd and 4th in the 400 meter dash (52.73 and 53.35).
In the 800 meter run HP had the same results as the 400. Seniors Marc Brenner and Ari Feldman finished 3rd and 4th (2:11.01 and 2:11.43).
Highland Park had success in the 1600 and 3200 as well. Junior Jonah Hanig and an outstanding night winning both the 3200 and the 1600 with thrilling finishes (9:54.03 and 4:32.36). Junior Luke Nudelman finished 3rd in the 3200 (10:17.56) and sophomore Angel Estrada ran a personal best to finish 4th in the 1600 (4:37.4).
Senior Brenden Philador had a strong night in the hurdles. He finished 2nd in both the 110 meter high hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles (17.26 and 44.15). Senior Josh Weinberg finished 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles (44.27).
The 4X100 meter relay (Weinberg, senior Rommel Gumiran, Echt, and Sledd) ran 45.74 for first place. Also, the 4X400 meter relay (Echt, Gumiran, Brenner, and Kasemir) had a great battle to win the final event of the night.
On the frosh-soph level the team had a tough time and finished 3rd.
Event winners included sophomore Jeremy Bloom in the 400 meter dash (56.7), sophomore Sheatial (Bosco) Isreal in the High Jump (5’3”), and freshmen Eddie Smoliak in the Pole Vault (10’6”)
