2012 24 Hour Run

Monday, January 2 2012 - 24 Hour Run

Since 1994, Highland Park High school has devoted the entire month of February to raising money for a charity nominated and voted upon by the students. This year, the students of Highland Park High School have chosen the Leukemia Research Foundation. Founded in 1946, the Leukemia Research Foundation's mission is to conquer leukemia, lymphoma and myelodysplastic syndromes by funding worldwide medical research on the causes and possible cures of these blood cancers. The LRF also focuses on enriching the quality of life of those touched by these diseases. They provide patient financial assistance and offer educational/emotional support programs.

Each year, the Highland Park High School Boy’s and Girls Track Teams combine their efforts to raise as much money as possible to contribute to Charity Drive. The 24 Hour Run is a 24-hour relay race in which members of the track team take turns running 1 mile at a time.  The event takes place on HPHS's indoor track for 24 hours starting at 10:30 am on February 3rd and concluding at 10:30 am on February 4th. After only 6 years, the 24 Hour Run has raised in excess of $120,000. Our goal is to cover over 200 miles during the 24 hours of the relay and raise over $25,000.

We ask that you become an honorary member of the HPHS Track Team by making a contribution to this cause.  Any amount that you contribute will help. Donations can be made on a per-mile basis or simply a dollar contribution.  Checks can be made payable to; Highland Park High School.  The Highland Park High School Boys and Girls Track Teams, Highland Park High School, and most importantly those affected by this year’s charity are infinitely grateful for your generosity.

Hey guys just wanted to congratulate you on what looks like another successful year of the 24-hour run. No matter what the outcome is you guys are proof that highland park track and field athletes and coaches have class. To the two guys spearheading the relay this year...sorry don't know your names, but way to go! I wouldn't of ever imagined that in 6 years after the first annual relay in 2006 there would be this much support from so many people in the HPHS community, many of which are not affiliated with the track and field program. Unfortunately I will not be able to cheer you guys on this year, I look forward to watching you guys in action this spring. Best of luck to all of you running tomorrow and competing this season. Zack Weinberg P.S - Tell coach Caines and Buti that I say hi, without both of their help the relay would not exist.
