Jonah Hanig Runs 15:14 At State Meet
Sunday, November 6 2011 - IHSA State Cross Country Meet - Jonah HanigHighland Park junior, Jonah Hanig competed well in the 2011 IHSA 3A State Cross Country Meet. He finished with a personal best 3 mile time of 15:14. The effort earned Jonah 45th place.
Jonah got out to a strong start going through the mile in 4:46.4. He then fell off the pace a bit in the second mile causing him to lose precious ground on his competition. He was able to come back solid in the final mile with a very strong final 400 meters. Jonah’s time of 15:14 was just 13 seconds away from a top 25 All-State finish and he was the 15th non-senior in the race. This was the 8th fastest time ever run by a Highland Park cross country runner on the famed Detweiller Park course and the fastest time ever by a Highland Park junior on the course.
Congratulations to Jonah on a great season! He has shown what a difference an athlete can make in one year when they work hard and are committed to excellence. Jonah hopes to have a group of teammates that will work as hard as he will over the next year going into his senior season so that the Giants can have a team qualify to the State Meet!
