Bricker, Hanig, and Kasemir Qualify For The 2012 IHSA State Track & Field Meet

Friday, May 18 2012 - IHSA Sectionals Track & Field - Loyola Academy

At the Loyola Track & Field Sectional Meet,  the Highland Park Giants had three individuals qualify for the IHSA State Track & Field Meet.

Senior John Bricker has been high jumping well all season and has been near the top of every meet he has competed this year.   The Sectional Meet was no different.   He did not clear his highest height, but got 6’1”, which was enough for second place and a trip to Charleston.

Junior Jonah Hanig ran the best race of his career in the 3200 Meter Run.   He ran a great race by going out into the lead and staying with the leaders for much of the race.   He faded a bit on lap 6, but was able to make a strong final charge on the last lap.   Jonah ran 9:22.11 for a huge personal best, which is less then a second off the school record.

Senior Alex Kasemir ran a strong race in the 400 Meter Dash.   He was seeded second and was able to hold that position during the race.   Alex ran 50.93 to earn his trip to the State Meet.

Other top performances included:

Senior Nate Echt - 4th place in the 400 Meter Dash (51.85)

Senior Brendan Philador - Tied for 6th place in the High Jump (5'9")

Sophomore Angel Estrada – 8th place in the 1600 Meter Run (4:26.71)

4X400 Meter Relay – It consisted of 4 freshmen going for the freshmen school record and they got it running 3:44.56  (Robert Carlsen 57.0, JP Leskovich 54.9, Ben Casey 56.5, and Deven Greenleaf 55.9)
