Sunday, May 13 2012 - CSL North Outdoor Track and Field

At the 2012 CSL North Outdoor Track & Field Championships the Highland Park varsity team battled to a 3rd place finish.  Points were hard to come by with top teams Deerfield and Niles North taking the bulk of them, but the Giants were able to score 95.5 points.

Here are some of the top performances:

100 Meter Dash – In a very tight race, senior Nate Echt ran an outstanding race to take second place in 11.521.

110 Meter Hurdles – Sophomore Benji Rogin stepped up big for the Giants to finish in 3rd place in 16.4.   Senior Brendan Philador had some trouble on an early hurdle that messed up his steps as he finished 6th in 18.2.

400 Meter Dash – This event was the varsity highlight of the night for the Giants.   Seniors Alex Kasemir and Nate Echt went 1-2 for big points in the event.   They ran 50.8 and 51.4.

1600 Meter Run – Junior Jonah Hanig ran a gutsy second half to battle with two of the top 1600 meter runners in the state.   He pushed the pace in the second half running a 2:10, but it was not enough as he finished 3rd in 4:31.2.  He also finished 3rd in the 3200 Meter Run earlier in the night running 9:37.4.

High Jump – This was the top field event for the Giants.  Senior John Bricker won jumping 6’1” and senior Brendan Philador finished 3rd at 5’11”.

Shot Put – Senior Max Downey had his best outing in the Shot Put finishing 2nd with a throw of 47’7.5”.

Discus – Senior Zach Korman threw a personal best in the Discus to finish in 4th throwing 132’3”.
