Frosh-Soph Win CSL North Outdoor Championship

The Highland Park High School Frosh-Soph Track & Field Team capped off a super season by winning the 2012 CSL North Outdoor Championship 3 points ahead of Deerfield.  The team accomplished the victory with many performances that showed tremendous focus and mental toughness.

 

Here are some of the highlights:

 

The distance runners had quite a night.   In the 3200 Meter Run freshmen Ben Casey ran away from the field to win the event in 10:30.22 while freshmen Evan Lissoos battled for 4th in 10:50.09.   In the 800 Meter Run sophomore Griffin Bojan took control of the race with his teammate, sophomore Jeremy Bloom, and a Deerfield runner chasing him.   Down the final stretch Bloom took the victory in 2:05.6 and Bojan held off the Deerfield runner to finish 2nd in 2:06.2.   The 1600 gave the Giants another 1-2 finish as Casey and Bojan ran extremely tough races and pulled away in 4:49.2 and 4:49.4.

 

Freshmen Deven Greenleaf had an outstanding night in the hurdles and Triple Jump.  He finished 6th in the 110 Meter Hurdles in 18.6 but came back in the 300 Meter Hurdles to win in 45.1 and set a Highland Park High School freshmen record in the event.   This was only the second time Greenleaf competed in this event.  In the Triple Jump he jumped 33’11” to finish 2nd.

 

Freshmen JP Leskovich finished 2nd in the 100 Meter Dash (11.91) and 4th in the 400 Meter Dash (55.5).  

 

Freshmen Eddie Smoliak cleared a personal best 11’3” in the Pole Vault to finish 3rd.

 

In the field events HP had one event winner.  Shealtiel (Bosco) Israel won the High Jump in 5’9”.  

 

Finally, the Giants won two relays.   They won the 4X100 Meter Relay (freshmen Robert Carlsen, Sammy Coan, Deven Greenleaf, and JP Leskovich) in 48.05.   The team of Carlsen 55.6, Casey 57.0, Leskovich 57.5, and Bloom 53.9 won a thrilling 4X400 Meter Relay as Bloom held off the charge by the Niles North anchor leg.

 

The future looks bright for Highland Park Track & Field!
