Anderson, Garfinkel, and Schott Earn Awards at the Buffalo Grove Race Car Rally

Saturday, October 23 2021 - Buffalo Grove Race Car Rally

Those not competing in the IHSA 3A Regional Meet had the opportunity to participate in the Buffalo Grove Race Car Rally. This was a very competitive invite in which all HP runners raced in the 3 Mile JV Race. The top 50 finishers were awarded miniature Hot Wheel race cars.

The Giants had 3 sophomore runners earn race cars. Doug Anderson led the way in 17:39. He was followed closely by Yonatan Garfinkel (17:43) and a fast closing Nolan Schott (17:53). The trio placed 20th, 28th, and 33rd. For Garfinkel, that was a personal best time and Schott was just a few seconds off his best time.

Sophomore Eli Neiman came in next with an 18:42. Freshman Usiel Rodriguez had another outstanding race to follow the Conference Meet as he ran an impressive 18:46. His previous best time for 3 miles was 19:51.7.

Sophomore Connor Edelstein and senior Alejandro Seiden both came across the line with a 19:00 3 mile. Not far behind them was sophomore Zach Coren running a 19:19.

Another trio of HP runners finished close together as sophomore Eddy Picazo led the pack in 19:50. Just a few seconds back were junior Enrique Lipezker (19:54) and freshman Robby Mendoza (19:56). Lipezker and Mendoza ran personal best times. Mendoza’s was a full minute faster! Junior Davide Albiani had another strong race crossing the line in 20:08, just 8 seconds of his best time.

Sophomore Tyler Rosenthal completed the 3 mile course in a personal best 20:49. Junior Finn Davis was next to cross the line in 21:21.

Freshmen Mateo Diaz and Charles Ludington raced well together to finish in 22:32 and 22:33. These were huge personal best times for both runners. Not far behind was freshman teammate Brian Hatoum in 22:45. Two more juniors came in next for HP. Andrew Arzac (22:52) and Ramey Heimgartner (22:59) both had solid races. This was the first time Arzac went sub 23 this season.

Freshman Mason Zoeller got out well and hung on for a 25:13. Senior Marco Schulze had a strong race with a 25:18. Sophomore Nate McDonagh ran a personal best 25:55. Senior Ethan Nicolaz-Davidson ran a season best time of 26:22 and sophomore Ryan Griffith came across the line in 27:57.

This was a competitive and fun meet for those that competed to finish their season.  The coaches hope that all team members will train together over the winter and be members of the track & field team. If those returning commit to putting in the work over the next 365 days, the Giants could have a very special season in 2022!
