Monday, March 4 2019 - Antioch Invitational

HP competed at the 16 school Antioch Invite. The meet takes place on the 200 meter track at the University Of Wisconsin Parkside Field House.

Sophomore Gabe Kirsch continued his success in the Triple and Long Jump. He had another personal best of 35’8” in the TJ and 17’2.5” in the LJ.

Sophomore Jaden Holzman was the only HP thrower to get a personal best in the Shot Put of 36’10”.

In the Pole Vault, senior Ben Kirsch had a season best 12’6” and sophomore Simon Auerbach also had a season best 9’6”.

Sophomore Zion Griffin ran 6.94 in the 55 Meter Dash. This ranks him 7th all-time for Highland Park in this event.

In the distance races, HP had an average night. Senior Jose Reyes ran well for the first 1200 of the 1600 Meter Run but lost the lead in the final 400. He still ran a 4:34.08 to take 4th place. Sophomore Jason Polydoris had a solid race in the 3200 Meter Run. He ran 9:52.96 for 2nd place.

The highlight of the meet for the Giants were the 4X400 Meter Relays. All of the team members of the two relay teams raced with grit and intensity. The first team was led off with a strong run of :58.5 by senior Jack Casey. He handed off to junior Ryan Rosenfeld who ran 1:01.7 followed by Mason Goldstein in 1:00.9. The anchor leg was senior newcomer James Wagenblast. He battled tough to catch the runner in front of him and cross the line with a :57.0 split as the team ran 3:58.08. The second team had junior Max Marmitt lead off in :58.5 (he also ran :58.31 in the open 400) followed by junior Tyger Guarnizo in :59.5. The 3rd leg was senior Jakob French with an impressive :55.5. The anchor leg was run by senior Jordy Mazza with a :56.2. This gave the team a 3:49.86. This was a nice early season 4X400 meter time for the team.

With the team missing several expected returning athletes, the current team members will continue to look to step up to fill those gaps in the team depth.
