24 Hour Run
02/21/2014 - 02/22/2014
Highland Park High School - Highland Park, IL -- Indoor Track
Since 1994, Highland Park High school has devoted the entire month of February to raising money for a charity nominated and voted upon by the students. This year, the students of Highland Park High School have chosen the Les Turner ALS Foundation. First you lose your ability to speak. Then, your ability to move. Next, you lose your ability to breathe and finally, your life. Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS, known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. There is no cure for ALS, and once diagnosed, patients typically only live three to five years. ALS is not defined by age, race or gender – anyone can be diagnosed and what is especially cruel is that you are robbed of your ability to move while your brain remains completely intact. Those at the Les Turner ALS Foundation are working every day to change that. They provide free services to over 400 patients and their families and children in the Chicagoland area and help fund two research labs at Northwestern Medicine. Your support allows them to serve all in need and find a cure so that someday “ALS Survivor” is a reality. They provide patient financial assistance and offer educational/emotional support programs.
Each year, the Highland Park High School Boy's and Girls Track Teams combine their efforts to raise as much money as possible to contribute to Charity Drive. The 24 Hour Run is a 24 hour relay race in which members of the track team take turns running 1 mile at a time. The event takes place on HPHS’s indoor track for 24 hours starting at 11:15 am on February 21st and concluding at 11:15 am on February 22nd. Our goal is to cover over 200 miles during the 24 hours of the relay and raise over $30,000. We ask that you become an honorary member of the HPHS Track Team by making a contribution to this cause. Any amount that you contribute will help. Donations can be made on a per-mile basis or simply a dollar contribution. You can donate online at the 24 Hour Run Website or give checks to a member of the track & field teams made payable to; Highland Park High School. The Highland Park High School Boys and Girls Track Teams, Highland Park High School, and most importantly those affected by this year’s charity are infinitely grateful for your generosity!
