Small Group Competes At Grant Meet

Thursday, September 17 2020 - Grant Tri Meet

With the meet vs. Niles North getting pushed back to Thursday, the team ran a smaller group of guys at the meet hosted by Grant Community High School. The meet was run in some rain on a fun and challenging course that was muddy with some hills. The meet included HP, Grant, and Zion Benton.

In the Varsity 3 Mile Race, freshmen Yonatan Garfinkel led the way in his first race of the season. He pushed through the mud to finish in 19:48. He was followed closely by junior Alejandro Seiden in 19:50. They took 12th and 13th place. Freshman Nolan Schott was next in, running 20:52 as he battled through a cramp. Senior Ari Kaden raced well to finish in 20:58. Freshman Alex Rosen finished in 22:08 to round out the top 5 for the team. Freshman Connor Edelstein raced hard to cross the line in 22:41.

In the JV 3 Mile Race, the Giants had a strong pack of seniors up front. Albert Klayman raced tough in his first meet of the season. He pulled away from the competition for his first high school win with a 21:36. Alex Kelley battled throughout the race and had a strong finish to hold off another runner and take 2nd place in 22:10. Max Laky ran well and also outkicked an opposing runner as he finished in 6th place with a time of 22:33. Junior Gabriel Ramos had a big race as he improved by almost a minute from his previous race at Deerfield to run 23:30! Sophomores Andrew Arzac and Ramey Heimgartner were the next two finishers for HP. They worked hard throughout the race to finish in 24:43 and 25:42. Freshman Jack Marcus competed in his first 3 mile race and ran a 28:17 while junior Ethan Nicolaz-Davidson came across the line in 29:06.

Despite not having the entire team race, the Giants showed tremendous heart at the meet. Those that raced Thursday felt the fatigue of racing twice in less than 48 hours. It was a fun and muddy meet. The team is looking to continue its progress this season by working hard and racing tough.
