First Outdoor Meet Takes Place at Loyola Academy

HP was scheduled to host a meet with Loyola Academy, Evanston, and Waukegan. Due to a forecast of unseasonably cold temperatures, wind, and rain the meet was moved a day earlier and hosted by Loyola.

 

Hurdles:

Juniors Max Kaplan (18.33) and Eduardo Monk (18.77) led the way for the Giants in the 110 Meter High Hurdles. Monk also had the team’s fastest time in the 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles running a 46.91 just ahead of Kaplan at 47.93. Sophomore Gabe Kirsch also had a good performance in the 300s with a 48.84.

 

Sprints:

The sophomores had a strong showing in the 100 Meter Dash. Giovanni Volpentesta (12.04) and Jaden Holzman (12.28) had the fastest times for HP. Senior Ben Kirsch was the 3rd team member under 12.5 with a 12.49. Newcomer sophomore Josh Hollander has shown potential to really help the team’s sprint depth with a (12.66). In the 400 Meter Dash, HP had four runners and all of them were sub 60: senior Jakob French (54.43), junior Max Marmitt (56.47), sophomore Mason Goldstein (58.65), and Holzman (58.83). French also led the way in the 200 Meter Dash running a 24.39 just ahead of Volpentesta (24.58). Other Giants under 26 included: senior Jordan Myles (25.7), juniors Emre Gulpinar (25.71) and Matthew Gidron (25.79). Jack Goldfeder had the fastest time for the HP freshmen (27.28).

 

Distance:

Senior Jordy Mazza had a strong race including a monster kick in the 800 Meter Run with a 2:05.56 to take 2nd in the event. In the 1600 Meter Run freshmen RJ Guhl continued to show significant improvement with a 5:35.28 personal best.

 

Field Events:

Sophomores Gabe Kirsch and Brian Perry had personal bests in the Long Jump with 17’1” and 16’11” marks while Goldfeder also got his best of 16’5”. Sophomore Simon Auerbach tied his personal best in the Pole Vault at 10’0”.

 

This was a solid first outdoor meet from the team with not everybody competing as some athletes trained through.
