Spartan Relays

Highland Park won three events at the 2015 Spartan Relays hosted by Glenbrook North.

In the field events the Giants won the Discus at 498'4” finishing over 24' ahead of Deerfield. This winning team included seniors Doug Kirsch and Eddie Smoliak, sophomore Joey Sereda, and junior Tucker Thompson.

On the track the throws continued to have a strong day by winning the 4X100 Throwers Relay in 49.20. The team consisted of Kirsch, senior Zack Goldberg, Thomson, and senior Eddie Smoliak. The quartet won out of the slow heat in part due to a strong anchor leg by Smoliak. The other victory for the team came in the Distance Medley Relay. The lead off 1200 was run by junior Brett Davidson as he finished with the lead in 3:17.1. Junior Ryan Kriozere ran a strong 400 to build the lead in a 51.7. Senior Deven Greenleaf in only his second 800 of the season went out a little too fast, but was tough as always to finish his leg in 2:04.2. The anchor was senior Ben Casey running a 1600. He went out very aggressive and was able to hold onto the lead running a 4:26.6. The total time for the relay was 10:39.5.
