HP Wins Twilight Invite!

The Highland Park team won both the varsity and frosh-soph levels at the 2014 Twilight Invite. The Giants had many outstanding performances on both levels. With several event champions and inspiring performances but the team realizes they still have much that needs improvement.

Below are some of the highlights:

Varsity-

100 Meter Dash: Senior Jarae Ward 3^rd 11.63, junior Sammy Coan 6^th 11.99

200 Meter Dash: Ward 4^th 24.42, junior Rock Cerant 6^th 24.71

400 Meter Dash: Junior Deven Greenleaf 3^rd 54.28, junior Sean Knapp 4^th 55.84

800 Meter Run: Senior Griffin Bojan 4^th 2:04.71, senior Jeremy Bloom 5^th 2:05.31

1600 Meter Run: Senior Angel Estrada (1^st 4:29.99) and junior Ben Casey (2^nd 4:31.2) pulled away from the field and battled back and forth until Estrada took the lead on the back stretch of the final lap for the victory.

3200 Meter Run: Senior James Rector ran an inspiring race as he took the lead for the first mile. After losing the lead he battled with 3 other runners as another runner from Northside Prep broke away from the pack. By the final lap, Rector began to move away from the pack of runners and at the 300 mark made a big move. He started to close on the leader as he made another shift at the 200. As he came off the final turn Rector was able to pass the leader and pull away for a nearly 3 second victory in 10:22.43. Junior Eddie Herz was 6^th with a time of 11:04.68.

110 Meter Hurdles: Senior Benjy Rogin 1^st 15.05, sophomore Ryan Kriozere 2^nd 15.44

300 Meter Hurdles: Rogin 1^st 41.11, Kriozere 2^nd 42.19

Relays: Only the 4X100 Meter was the only HP relay to finish in the top 2. They ran 45.89.

High Jump: Senior Shealtial Isreal 1^st 6'00”, Cerant 4^th 5'6”

Pole Vault: Junior Eddie Smoliak 1^st 12'6”, senior Alec Deer 2^nd 11'6”

Long Jump: Senior Kelshawn Shields 1^st 18'5”, Isreal 2^nd 18'0.5”

Triple Jump: Junior Alexander Grayson 6^th 34'1.75”

Shot Put: Smoliak 2^nd 43'5”, senior Bryan Fiorenza 40'3”

Discus: Junior Doug Kirsh 1^st 119'5”, Smoliak 117'3”

Frosh Soph-

100 Meter Dash: Sophmores Mark Gilling and Kirhee Cooper went 1-3 (12.1-12.19)

200 Meter Dash: Cooper and Gilling took 1-2 in this event (24.71-24.73)

400 Meter Dash: Sophomore Max Zavell 2^nd 56.7

800 Meter Run: Freshmen Ian Goldberg 4^th 2:23.58 and Charlie Skurie 5^th 2:25.33

1600 Meter Run: Freshmen Josh Drummond 6^th 5:02.56

3200 Meter Run: Sophomore Brett Davidson in his second meet back from injury took 1^st 10:31.44 while freshmen Jonathan Rosenfeld was 3^rd in 10:36.07

110 Meter Hurdles: Freshmen Zev Motew 1^st 17.28 and Nick Kirsch 5^th 20.59

300 Meter Hurdles: Motew 1^st 45.55 and Kirsch 6^th 52.17

Relays: 4X100 took 1^st in 48.62, 4X200 was 4^th in 1:46.25, 4X400 was 2^nd in 3:49.48, and the 4X800 took 4^th in 9:14.3

High Jump: Sophomore Jessie Redd 1^st 5'2” and Cooper 3^rd 5'0”

Pole Vault: Freshmen Gabe Strauss 1^st 9'0” and Jared Levine 2^nd 8'6”

Long Jump: Kirsh 4^th 15'4.5”

Triple Jump: Redd 2^nd 35'0” and Freshmen Andrew Chaet 6^th 31'0”

Shot Put: Sophomore Sheridan Clayborne 2^nd 37'1”

Discus: Clayborne 6^th 88'8”
