Monday, May 9 2016 - Rolling Meadows 'Mustang Classic'


The Mustang Classic at Rolling Meadows High School was a new meet on the schedule for the team this season.   It turned out to be a great competitive meet with 11 schools on both a varsity and frosh-soph level.    

 

The Giants had two event champions.   Junior Zev Motew won the varsity 110 Meter High Hurdles event with a time of 16.14.  Sophomore Zach Auerbach dominated the frosh-soph Discus with a 147’10” throw.  That mark would have won the varsity Discus as well!  

 

Other top performances on Varsity:

 

Junior Jonathan Rosenfeld had a strong race in the 3200 Meter Run to take 4th place with a time of 9:52.08.   Senior Alejandro Gutierrez also ran well as he finished in 10th place with a PR of 10:23.37.  

 

Senior Brett Davidson ran a PR in the 1600 Meter Run to take 5th place in 4:28.49.

 

Motew also took 5th in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles (42.48).

 

The 4X200 Meter Relay took 4th place in 1:38.77 as senior Mark Gilling had a gutsy finish to pass a team at the line.  (Juniors Ben Davis, DJ Penick and Aaron Jaffe, and senior Gilling).

 

The 4X800 Meter Relay also took 4th place (8:37.98) with the team consisting of Davidson, and juniors Ben Bloom, Josh Drummond, and Matthew Casey.

 

DJ Penick finished 6th in the Triple Jump with a leap of 38’1.5”.

 

Senior Tucker Thompson was 3rd in the Shot Put with a 48’10.25” toss.  Junior Michal Steczek also threw well with a 40’8.5” mark to take 14th place.

 

Junior Joey Sereda finished in 4th place in the Discus with a 133’10” throw.




Other top performances on Frosh-Soph:  

 

Sophomore Ben Zavell ran 57.61 in the 400 Meter Dash to finish in 10th place.

 

Sophomores Alec Glazier and Nate Amster took 3rd and 4th place in the 3200 Meter Run.  They ran 10:06.76 and 10:10.08.

 

Freshmen Joseph Beaudet, in only his second meet back from injury, finished 8th in the 100 Meter High Hurdles (19.35).

 

The 4X200 Meter Relay team of freshmen Amir Fakhari, and sophomores Andrew Derdena, Michael Menaker, and Luke Crawford took 4th place in 1:41.55.

 

Freshmen Jack Casey was 6th in the High Jump (5’3”).

 

Crawford also took 4th in the Long Jump with a mark of 17’7”.


Auerbach finished in 3rd place in the Shot Put with a throw of 39’2”.
