Frosh-Soph Take 2nd At CSL North Indoor Championships

Monday, March 21 2016 - CSL North Boys Indoor Championships

The Highland Park frosh-soph track & field team ended the indoor season with a strong showing at the CSL North Indoor Conference Championships.   The team took second place behind a very strong Glenbrook North team.  The Giants will look to continue to work hard and improve this outdoor season!  The coaching staff is very excited for the possibilities of success this young group can have in the future if they are all willing to make the commitment to be great!

The team scored a decent amount of points in the field events.  Many of those points were scored by freshmen.   Freshmen Jack Casey took 2nd (5’4”) in the High Jump while freshmen Alec Parthe finished in 6th (5’2”).  Two more freshmen took 3rd and 6th in the Pole Vault.  Ben Kirsch continues to shine in the event clearing a personal best 10’0” and Jakob French cleared his best at 9’0”.  Sophomore Luke Crawford finished 4th in the Long Jump at 16’9.75” as freshmen Amir Fakhari took 6th at 16’6”.  Fakhari also took 3rd in the Triple Jump with a leap of 35’6”.   Finally, the only champion for HP on the Frosh-Soph level went to sophomore Zach Auerbach as he threw 40’1” to win the Shot Put.

The first track event final for the frosh-soph was the 3200 Meter Run.   Freshmen Jack Schulman continued his great week of conference meet performances with a 4th place finish in the event, running 11:31.86.  This was one of the few distance highlights for the Giants on the frosh-soph level.

Parthe had another strong meet in the hurdles.  He took 2nd in the 55 Meter High Hurdles (9.17) and 3rd in the 55 Meter Low Hurdles (8.82).   These are very good times for a freshmen.  Alec has a bright future in the hurdle events!

The 4X160 Meter Relay was less than 1.5 seconds out of 1st place as they took 4th in 1:22.71 (Crawford, sophomores Andrew Derdena and Tristin Razetti, and Fakhari).   Fakhari also took 6th in the 200 Meter Dash (27.22) which was his fourth event of the meet.

The 800 Meter Run had sophomore Alex Frank taking 4th (2:17.0) and freshmen Richard Heller in 6th (2:18.3).

The 400 Meter Dash was a big scoring event for the team.  Sophomore Ben Zavell took 2nd (59.12) while French finished 3rd (59.41).

The meet finished out with the 4X400 Meter Relay taking 4th place.   (French 60.0, Frank 59.9, Heller 60.6, and Zavell 58.2).

If this group puts in the work over the next few years, there is no telling how good they could become.  Several sophomores and a freshmen were up on varsity.   So, it will be fun to see how well this group does when they are all competing together on varsity in the next two years!
