Ben Casey Breaks Sophomore 1600 Meter Record

Thursday, February 14 2013 - Glenbrook North vs Highland Park and Northside

The first meet of the 2013 Track & Field Season at GBN showed the Highland Park team that we have a lot of work to be done, but also some great possibilities.   There were solid performances by many and less then stellar by others.    Overall it was a positive outing that showed the areas where we lacked depth and/or talent.    The meet also showed the team where some of our strengths lie.

Senior Andrew Sledd had a solid meet with a 6.1 for the 50 Meter Dash and a 24.6 for the 200 Meter Dash.   Junior Benjy Rogin led the way in the hurdles with a 8.2 in the 50HH and a 8.0 in the 50LH.   Two athletes had strong lead off legs for our relays.   Junior Griffin Bojan led off the 4X800 Meter Relay with a 2:07.7 and sophomore JP Leskovich ran a 55.6 to lead off one of our 4X400 Meter Relays.

The highlight event of the meet was the 1600 meter run.   Freshmen Brett Davidson ran an impressive 4:52.5 for his first high school track race while 3 other Highland Park runners finished in the 4:30's.   They were led by sophomore Ben Casey who ran a blistering 4:31.9!   His time set a new Highland Park High School Sophomore Record!   The old record of 4:34.5 was run in 1977!  Ben ran with great poise, determination, and confidence.   Watch for many more great races from this young distance runner as well as an exciting season by the entire HP team.

GO GIANTS!
