HP Varsity Race To 2nd Place Finish At Wheeling Invite

Saturday, October 6 2012 - Wheeling Invite

Once again the Highland Park team talked about getting out fast and into position at this weekend's Wheeling Invite.   The race times were slow due to very soft ground and a windy day on Wheeling's new course at The AllState Campus in Northbrook, but the team's top 4 were able to get out well.   Seniors Jonah Hanig, Emmett Smith, Luke Nudelman, and junior Angel Estrada were in good position at the first 400.   Sophomore Ben Casey did not get out as well and struggled to get up into position throughout the race.  Hanig had his best race of the season finishing 3rd while running right with Belvidere North's top two finishers.  The times for the top 3 were 15:20, 15:21, and 15:21  with Tyler Yunk of BN getting by Hanig right at the finish.  Estrada and Smith had solid races but not great races to finish in 11th (15:52) and 14th (15:56).   Nudelman had his best performance in an invite this season finishing in 21st (16:07).   Casey battled throughout the race, but his body just would not respond and he finished in 44th (16:42).   Sophomore Brady McDougall was the team's sixth man in 77th (17:23) and sophomore Andrew Huddleston was the seventh man in 85th (17:34).

The team knows that now is the time to sharpen their focus and continue to work hard.   They must also take care of the details like diet, hydration, sleep, and injury prevention.    The part of the season begins now that all of the hard work has been for.   This is when the team has an opportunity to do something very special over the next 4 weeks!    Believe in yourself GIANTS and go out there and get the job done!
