Team Finishes 3rd In Peoria!

Saturday, September 8 2012 - Peoria First To The Finish Cross Country Invite

The Highland Park Cross Country Team went into the First To The Finish Invite in Peoria with high expectations after a sub-par race at Hinsdale last week.    The Giants ran their best team race of the season to finish in 3rd place out of 42 Class AAA teams.    The team was led by a solid race from senior Jonah Hanig (10th, 15:15) who was hoping to finish with a better place and much faster time.   Junior Angel Estrada (16th, 15:24) and senior Emmett Smith (20th, 15:28) ran well with personal bests for the 3 mile course.  Sophmore Ben Casey (46th, 15:40) continues to race strong and run faster each week.   Senior Luke Nudelman (101st, 16:07) continues to improve after a late summer injury set his training back a few weeks.    The rest of the top 10 in the varsity race also ran well: juniors Griffin Bojan (16:53), Jeremy Bloom (17:07), James Rector (17:09), sophomore Brady McDougall (17:32), and senior Daniel Blumberg (18:01).   The team will continue to work hard and do all of the little things to continue to progress towards their team and individual goals for the season!

The top Highland Park finisher in the Open Race was sophomore Kevin Merkel (17:44).

Great job by all of the Giants that took advantage of this opportunity to race on the legandary Detweiller Park Cross Country Course!   Superb efforts by all of you!
